Mahal gets vote but likely annulled

Labuan (daily express): The Durian Tunjung Umno branch which held its meeting last Saturday had nominated Member of Parliament Datuk Haji Yussof Mahal for the top divisional post, thus giving the MP four nominations so far and still short of two for eligibility to contest.

But according to the Umno office, the meeting need to be held again because it did not have the required presence of representatives from the Umno Management Committee which is conducting the elections.

According to members, some officials were present earlier during the meeting but left when tension became high leading to verbal exchanges between members.

But based on the present situation with Durian Tunjung going to the MP-supported candidate Dr Harun Hj Pudin, the MP's total nominations have reached four. His three other nominations were from Sungei Labu, Hijau Baiduri (Batu Arang) and Sungei Pagar branches.

Two other branches which nominated him, Tanjung Aru and Sungei Bedaun had their results annulled due to protests over procedures.

So far 22 Umno branches had held their meetings and the incumbent Dato Suhaili Abdul Rahman is ahead of the race with 18 nominations. His backed candidates for Umno Wanita and Youth top posts had also qualified.
